Salamander DC (formerly Mandarin Oriental Hotel)
Washington, DC
LD7 Studio was the landscape architect for the complete renovation of the main courtyard off the lobby. The client desired a courtyard that would lend itself as a wedding venue while also creating flexibility within the space to handle more than one activity at a time. New ballroom space was added with its private patio overlooking the courtyard, so the renovation was designed to take into account the creation of two separate terraces, one for the lobby and one for the ballroom, while maintaining key view corridors to common elements in the courtyard design. An infusion of plant material and statuary reflective of Asian culture were added along the winding walkways to create interest within the courtyard.
